Lake Taupo Challenge
Great day in Taupo for the "No Boring Bits" riders with all three of us (Myself, Jane Scarborough, and Ingrid Richter) finishing and two of us doing the ride for the first time, in fact it was my second only road race (followed the Bike the Lake 84km event in Rotorua a few weeks back) and really brought home the fact that you really should train properly for these things. In fact you could put my entire training schedule on one hand... rides over 80 km = 2, rides over 40km = 5, rides that involved hills = 2, competitive rides = 1, coffee stops while on training rides = lots. All that aside, we all achieved the times we set ourselves and will be back next year (and this time I'll train properly.)Some nutcase dressed as prophet and complete with beard, long hair, sandles, and robe riding an antique single speed completed the 160km's in 6hr 12min - not bad considering what he was riding and his clothes! Awesome to see so many club riders down there and huge thanks to Jerry and the Dole Team who looked after everyone at the finish line so well.
Best advice to anyone considering this ride - DO IT, its a personal challenge and well worth the sweat and tears when you finally stumble over that finish line, and for 2010 we want to see a lot off NBB riders in the team event!
Will post a request for interest later in the year.
